  6. Professor Jasper Rubin presented a paper, titled "Planning in Support of Urban Life: Open Space Policy and Programs in San Francisco Since 1970" at the 2010 AAG conference in Washington, D.C. (April 14-18, 2010).

  9. DUSP students Nikolara Jansons and Goliad H. Muse win 2010-2011 Merritt Community Capital Scholarships in Urban Studies and Planning ($5,500 each).
  10. DUSP students Nathan Rogers and Rachel Moody win Richard LeGates Scholarships in Urban Studies and Planning, $400 for spring 2010 and $1,100 for 2010-2011, respectively.
  11. Department of Urban Studies and Planning office will be closed March 29 through April 2 for spring break.
  12. Senior Seminar (USP 680) is being offered in Fall 2010 in partnership with Bay Area LISC.   14. DUSP Alumni Reception was held on Thursday, April 8, 2010 5-8:30 pm at the Seven Hills Conference Center at SF State.
  15. Due to State Budget Closure Days, the Department of Urban Studies and Planning office (HSS 263) will be closed Feb. 19th through Feb. 22th. Please plan accordingly.
  16. Three Richard LeGates Student Scholarships in Urban Studies and Planning are available. Two for junior students ($1,100 each) to cover fees and other expenses associated with student education at San Francisco State University during the 2010-2011 academic year and one for a senior student ($400) to cover expenses during spring 2010. The deadline to submit your completed application is no later than Wednesday, March 17 by 4pm at HSS 263. Application form. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  17. Two Merritt Community Capital scholarships for $5,500 each for Urban Studies and Planning majors are available. One for a junior and one for a senior student to cover fees and other expenses associated with student education at San Francisco State University during the 2010-2011 academic year. The deadline to submit your completed application is no later than Wednesday, March 17 by 4pm at HSS 263. Application form. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  18. Graduation application form is on the SF State Registrar's Office web page; Departmental deadline to apply for spring and summer graduation is Wednesday February 17th 3 pm.

Fall 2009

  1. At its December 15, 2009 meeting, SF State's Academic Senate approved DUSP proposal to change the degree title from "Urban Studies" to "Urban Studies and Planning" for the B.A. degree and the minor.
  2. External organizations are invited to submit a proposal for possible course adoption in our Urban Studies and Planning Senior Seminar class in spring 10. RFP 2010.

  7. Professor Das traveled to Porquerolles Island, France from 10/28/09 to 11/3/09 to attend a UNESCO sponsored conference. He gave a presentation, titled "Empowerment through participatory slum upgrading: comparing Indian and Indonesian cases and contexts."

  16. Fall 2009 Advising List
  17. Senior Seminar (USP 680) is being offered in Fall 2009 for the first time to help Urban Studies majors planning to graduate at the end of the fall semester and those who do not wish to leave USP 680 for Spring 2010. A great line up of projects are being offered in partnership with Bay Area LISC, including projects from Chinatown CDC Planning Department, Excelsior Action Group, Visitacion Valley Business Opportunities for Merchants, and BayView Business Resource Center. Students who have completed the prerequisites (400, 480 or 658, 492, 493, 603/604) are invited to attend the first meeting of class with Professor Pamuk on Tuesday, Aug. 25 4-7pm HH 201.
  18. USP 401: Seminar in Urban Studies and Planning -- GWAR is open for Urban Studies majors and minors only. This course satisfies university's new GWAR requirement.

  22. BSS Transfer Student Orientation Day is Monday, July 6, 2009. New Urban Studies and Planning students are invited to attend a departmental orientation meeting at HSS 302 (2-3pm).
  23. DUSP student Nathan Rogers wins the 2009 California Planning Foundation Northern Section Award ($1,000). The award includes a one-year American Planning Association student membership.
  24. DUSP students Jana Boring (junior) and Ryan Thayer (senior) win 2009-2010 Merritt Community Capital Scholarships in Urban Studies and Planning ($5,500 each).
