Merritt Community Capital has generously funded two scholarships of $5,500 each for Urban Studies and Planning majors to cover fees and other expenses associated with student education at San Francisco State during the 2009-2010 academic year. The deadline to submit your completed application is no later than Wednesday, May 6 by 4pm at HSS 263. Application form.

  13. Professor Ashok Das presented his research on microfinance in India and Indonesia at the annual Association of American Geographers (AAG) conference in Las Vegas, Nevada (March 25, 2009).
  14. Professor Jasper Rubin presented his research on San Francisco's waterfront at a multidisciplinary conference in France (March 21, 2009)

Winter 2009

  1. Department of Urban Studies and Planning and the Office of International Programs have partnered and hosted 20 selected Korean students from the University of Seoul this winter (Jan. 5-21, 2009). Faculty from Urban Studies and Planning, Geography, and Public Administration delivered lectures and field trips on urban studies and planning topics.

Fall 2008

  1. External organizations are invited to submit a proposal for possible course adoption in our Urban Studies and Planning Senior Seminar class in spring 09. RFP 2009.
  2. Professor Ashok Das presented his research at an international conference on housing, urban poverty and environment in Uganda sponsored by the Canadian International Development Research Center (IDRC) (Dec. 2-4, 2008).

  4. The Spring 2009 Class Schedule DUSP student Eugene Waddell wins the 2008 Richard G. Munsell California Planning Roundtable Scholarship ($2,000). This scholarship is sponsored in honor of Richard G. Munsell by the California Planning Roundtable for students interested in public planning in California.

  11. Professor Jasper Rubin gave a research presentation at the "The Fixity and Flow of Urban Waterfronts" conference in Hamburg, Germany (Oct.10, 2008).
  12. Professor Richard LeGates, Ashok Das, and Ayse Pamuk gave research presentations at the joint Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning and European Schools of Planning (ACSP-AESOP) conference in Chicago (July 6-11, 2008).

  20. In Fall of 2008, the Urban Studies Program was instituted by San Francisco State University as a Department in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences. Also as of Fall 2008, "Planning" was added to the title. The academic unit is now officially "Department of Urban Studies and Planning."
